HOW TO HOST A JAPANESE STYLE DINNER PARTY

We all have busy lives and it’s important to remember that we don’t always have to do everything ourselves. Hosting a Japanese style dinner party is a great excuse to ditch your apron and order in a load of sushi. This gives you the time to go the extra mile when it comes to decorations!

Here are a few tips to help you bring Kyoto into your home:

Decor

Ingredients To Set The Table

Smooth black pebbles (Amazon)

Bamboo mats – used to roll sushi (Waitrose)

Small dishes (Waitrose)

Grey napkins & table cloth (Zara Home)

Tea lights

Small bud flowers (Waitrose)

Chopsticks (with the Sushi delivery)

Soya Sauce (with the Sushi delivery)

Wasabi (with the Sushi delivery)

Ginger (with the Sushi delivery)

Grey ribbon, string or elastic band

Sushi

Transfer the sushi delivery from the plastic containers onto a tray. You could also use tablemats or wooden boards as serving platters.

Tips on presentation:

Separate the pieces leaving a small space between them.

Sprinkle with sesame seeds.

Squeeze some mayo out in a big blob and with a knife smooth it down like a posh chef would!

Atmosphere

Ask your guests to take of their shoes and provide them with slippers and flip-flops to use instead. It will make people laugh and they will have something to talk about from the get go.

Dim the lights and play soothing Asian beats to set the mood.
