All the foodie & homeware spots I could pack into 48 hrs
I decided to tag along on my sister’s trip to New York to visit her old friend from Uni. That meant only 48 hours in the Big Apple! I dedicated the time to seeing how many lifestyle hotspots I could pack in. We stayed at The Crosby Street Hotel, in Soho, a fun and vibrant area, which I thoroughly explored!
We ended the trip by visiting out relatives in Philadelphia. They knew that my sister was coming, but I was a surprise, which meant a healthy Social Media detox!
Here are a of my favourite spots:
COOKING & HOMEWARE SHOPS
This was the highlight of my trip! The ABC home store is utterly stylish. Everything from the little flower vases, to the mix and match crockery is something I’d want in my home. It reminded me of the African shops in Cape Town’s Cape Quarter.
It also has a wonderful restaurant, which serves mouth wateringly delicious burgers. I sat at a small wooden table, on which there was a little pink dish for olive oil and a tiny metal bowl for the salt. The table was instant inspiration to run home and start setting up for a dinner party!
SUR LA TABLE
This was right near my hotel and I couldn’t help popping in every time I walked by. Everything from the cutlery to the crockery and cooking utensils were tailored for fun and easy entertaining.
CRATE & BARREL
Crate & Barrel stock a variety of furniture, kitchenware and other home essentials. They had some very interesting and what I thought to be avant-garde products. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to ship anything back to London but had great fun browsing!
675 Avenue of the Americas
This craft shop is filled with interesting and unusual pens, papers and all things crafty! It’s like a toy store for artists. I got so many ideas for table settings. For example, I bought tropical ombre place cards. Looks like my next party will be a Luau!
889 Broadway, 19th Street
Fishs Eddy is one of the funniest shops. I bought this hysterical plate thinking it might help me with weight watchers. It is the size of the palm of my hand. Perhaps it’s meant for dolls!
DEAN & DELUCA
560 Broadway, New York, NY 10012
With an array American foodstuff, I just wasn’t sure where to start. I had the best melon I’ve ever tasted and a Chicken Caeser unlike any other. I also treated myself to some more coloured sprinkles and cheesecake toffees amongst other delights. I don’t need to tell you that I left with a very large shopping bag!
THE DOUGHNUT PROJECT
10 Morton Street
If you like doughnuts this is well worth a visit. The combination of flavours are inventive yet delicious. With eyes biggest than your stomach it’s easy to get carried away!
JEWISH FOOD IN NYC
RUSS & DAUGHTERS
179 E Houston Street
JACKS WIFE FREDA
My list, so far, for next time:
-321 ICE CREAM SHOP
ICE & VICE
BLACK TAP CRAFT BURGERS & BEERS – freakshakes look insane
MOMOFUKU MILK BAR
RUIMILK – incredible candy floss creations
CATCH – waffles
EGGLOO – bubble waffles
FRANKEL’S DELICATESSEN – salt beef sandwich to go crazy over
