CRATES, CRATES, CRATES
You’ve probably heard me say it a hundred times, but – don’t ever throw away wooden crates! They have so many uses and a summer picnic sure is one. You can stack them up for height and use them as tables and stools. They have such a raw, rustic feel to them, that they don’t even need covering.
CONCEALED WITH A CLOTH
If you don’t have any rustic crates lying around, a beautiful tablecloth will come in handy. You can use literally any box or table, no matter how ugly, underneath your cloth, and it will immediately make your picnic look elegant.
FLOWER AND FRUITSCAPE
Even if your table isn’t as lavish or long as this one, a centerpiece of fruit and flowers will really give it that wild garden feel that a picnic is all about. I say, the brighter the better!
Involving the Entire Family
Picnics should be easy, you can make it as pretty and detailed as you like but it always comes down to the people you share you your picnic with, including your animals. Get your pets involved by preparing a bowl for them too.
Bringing the inside out is also a great option to create comfort and style. Pull together all the cushions and rugs you can find and bring your interiors outside. Just remember to brush off the grass before you bring them back in.
If you want to go all out and pretend you’re on a safari, all it takes is a drinks stand, a wicker basket, some folding chairs and your best silver tea set. Oh, and an old brown leather suitcase – you have one of those, right?
A fresh dish which shouts summer is my baby gem salad. A dish which is so quick and easy to make and will definitely have people coming back for seconds which means you’ll have no waste to carry home.
Or why not forget all the frills, go old school and take a blanket, a chopping board, a few sandwiches and some fruit in jars. Don’t forget to take along a few extra jars for the drinks!
